This flow chart is intended to give you a general idea of what might be wrong with your computer. It is possible to make your computer worse while working on it. Warning use any information from this website at your own risk. If your computer is valuable with important data and you are not sure whats going on with it, then a repair shop diagnoses or repair might be best. If your computer still boots up to the operating system it is always best to backup any important files to a flash drive, DVD disk or external hard drive before working on it or replacing the Motherboard or hard drive. Important files might include Documents, Pictures, Email info, Browser bookmarks, Serial Numbers for installed software and more. Some of the time the important files on your hard drive can be retrieved even if your computer will no longer boot to the O.S. Either you or someone else can add your old hard drive as a secondary or slave drive to a new or different computer. If your hard drive dies for example, and has been making clanking or scratching sounds, or you have formatted the hard drive and already tried to reinstall a new OS. Then the chances are even less that you will be able to recover old files off the hard drive. And if you do work on the inside of your own computer always avoid electric static shock to sensitive parts using a specially made technician grounding strap or by touching the metal chassis of the case before touching the memory or motherboard.
